What electrical service does a home sauna need?
The answer depends on the exact sauna and heater. Infrared cabins and traditional electric saunas can have very different voltage, amperage and wiring requirements, so the model should be selected before permanent electrical work is finalized.
Start with the sauna, not the breaker.
Infrared saunas
Some residential infrared models are designed around lower electrical loads and may use a dedicated receptacle. Others require different circuits. Do not assume every infrared sauna is a standard plug-in installation.
Traditional electric saunas
Traditional sauna heaters are typically sized to the cabin volume and commonly require a dedicated hardwired circuit. Larger rooms generally use higher-output heaters and therefore require more electrical capacity.
Heater controls matter too
The heater, controller and any separate power unit must be considered together. A sauna room price may not include the heater package, which is why we show MAAX Saunas room and heater pricing separately where applicable.
Use the installation manual
The final electrical plan should follow the exact manufacturer's documentation and applicable local electrical code. Your electrician should work from the model-specific requirements rather than a generic sauna estimate.
Do not install a circuit based on a guess.
